If your MTD push lawn mower is not stopping even when you release the handle you may have a bad stop switch. You can test the switch with a multimeter, if it is bad then you would need to replace it. It is not safe to override this safety switch.
Also, check the wire connecting to the stop switch to see if it has detached or it broken. If itâ€™s broken then you will need to replace it.
You can find the model and serial numbers located on your MTD push or self-propelled lawnmower either on the deck, or on the rear door if you have a rear discharge unit.
